Is AI going to steal your job? Whether this question makes you laugh or makes you worried, major technological shifts often make us uneasy. This week, I read James Currier’s analysis on why that is, specifically in light of recent developments in Generative AIs like Chat GPT and DALL-E 2. James suggests that the fear isn’t about losing our jobs (or income) but about losing our status—which, I would add, can equate to losing our identity. While the prospect of changing how we see ourselves may be frightening, it’s helpful to realize: flexibility will always benefit us. The more we see ourselves as willing and able to change, the sooner we’ll see these tools as exciting, rather than unsettling.

Insight Inspired by: NfX founding partner James Currier and his article, The Lifecycle of Uncomfortable Tech. If you’re interested in Generative Tech and AI (or don’t know if you are or not, and want to find out), I also learned a lot from this article, which explains what it is and what opportunities it creates.
